Restricting is not prohibiting, and suggesting is not ordering: drawing on our experience and with your stay in Peru as our priority, we have put together useful information for visitors and a series of tips and recommendations to make your JB Destinos experience truly unforgettable.

A Good Excuse to Book a JB Destinos Experience: Public Holidays

These are Peru’s 16 national public holidays, days off across the country and perfect for extending your trip. Holy Thursday and Good Friday change every year with Holy Week.

    2027 Holidays

    • Friday 1 January – New Year’s Day
    • Thursday 25 March – Holy Thursday
    • Friday 26 March – Good Friday
    • Saturday 1 May – Labor Day
    • Monday 7 June – Battle of Arica and Flag Day
    • Tuesday 29 June – Saint Peter and Saint Paul
    • Friday 23 July – Peruvian Air Force Day
    • Wednesday 28 July – Independence Day (Fiestas Patrias)
    • Thursday 29 July – Independence Day (Fiestas Patrias)
    • Friday 6 August – Battle of Junín
    • Monday 30 August – Saint Rose of Lima
    • Friday 8 October – Battle of Angamos
    • Monday 1 November – All Saints’ Day
    • Wednesday 8 December – Feast of the Immaculate Conception
    • Thursday 9 December – Battle of Ayacucho
    • Saturday 25 December – Christmas Day

The 2027 dates follow the current calendar; if the Government declares new holidays or non-working days, we will update this list.

In Cusco, Corpus Christi (a movable date between May and June) and 24 June, Inti Raymi and Cusco Day are also celebrated in a big way. On these dates and on long weekends, demand for hotels, trains and Machu Picchu tickets rises, so we recommend booking in advance.

    Peru’s National Festivities

You can visit Peru at any time of year. The traditions and customs of this vast country are celebrated all year round, and we especially recommend these major events:

    • On 24 June we celebrate the Festival of the Sun (Cusco Day).
    • On 28 and 29 July, Peru celebrates its Independence Day (Fiestas Patrias).
    • On 30 August we celebrate the feast of Saint Rose of Lima.

The Right Clothing for a Worry-Free Trip

Peru has a rainy season and a dry season, and it is worth keeping them in mind before you book. The dry season brings bright sunshine and a cool breeze, with no special clothing requirements. In the rainy season, however, visitors should prioritize (depending on their travel dates) waterproof clothing, jackets, gloves, hats, trekking boots or shoes and cotton socks to stay protected in temperatures that can drop to around 3 °C.

For the dry season, be sure to pack UV-protection sunglasses, SPF 50+ sunscreen, caps or hats, comfortable trousers, cotton T-shirts or blouses and trekking shoes.

    A Bilingual Experience

Most of our travelers are English speakers, and our tour staff are ready to welcome you and communicate comfortably and fluently in your own language. If you are learning Spanish and would like to practice during your stay and tours, feel free to do so with us: we will always be happy to help, correct and translate.

    Plan Your Budget

The packages and day tours we offer can usually be paid in your local currency with your card. For bookings with international payment, we only process US dollars.

Peru’s local currency is the Peruvian sol (S/), with banknotes of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 soles and coins of 1, 2 and 5 soles.

For convenience, we suggest not carrying too much cash on each outing: Peru’s tourist areas have ATMs close by, so you can access cash whenever you need it.

On tours, the most widely used and accepted credit card is VISA, although urban centers also accept other cards such as MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS and DINERS CLUB without restriction.

Streets, Trails, Mountains or Lakes: Getting Around With an Adventure Seal!

So that you can enjoy any of our packages and tours, we arrange punctual, safe transport for every route. We use modern buses and smaller vans that are climate-controlled, spacious and fully certified for tourism and passenger transport.

    Useful Facts

    • The electricity supply in Peru is 220 volts at 60 Hz.
    • If Peru is known for one thing, it is its outstanding cuisine, one of the main reasons people visit. On the coast you can enjoy exquisite fish and seafood ceviches; in popular Andean cooking, tubers take center stage; and jungle cuisine offers succulent meats and a native plantain dough known as ‘tacacho’. Getting to know Peru means enjoying an endless variety of dishes that are not only exotic but ancestral and nutritious, with flavors you will only find here.
    • Avoid taking photos at airports, police stations and museums where you are explicitly asked to put your camera away.
    • Please be careful and help us protect our flora and fauna: the illegal trafficking of endemic birds, mammals, plants and flowers, or removing them from their habitat, can lead to legal and disciplinary penalties.
    • Do not try to take or remove pieces of cultural heritage, even as souvenirs. Peruvian law is very strict about the trafficking and sale of these and other items that require academic endorsement or special customs licenses, unless they are replicas bought at regulated outlets endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism.
    • The use and possession of psychoactive substances is prohibited, monitored and punished by the authorities in our country, as are human trafficking and child sex tourism. Penalties are set out in Laws 29408, 30963 and 30802, and in MINCETUR Supreme Decree 003-2010 on lodging rights and responsible tourism, which protect children and adolescents from abuse and exploitation (see the Protégeme poster).
    • Protected areas are vitally important to tourism in Peru. Visiting them and treating them with due respect matters to us and is a duty for our visitors, here and wherever you come from.
